Chesapeake Clams
How to Cook Clams
You can steam, boil, bake, fry, and stuff clams, or add them to your favorite clam chowder recipe.
Steamed clams: fill a pot with ¼ inch of water. Bring water to a boil, add live clams, cover with a tight-fitting lid and cook until clams open (3 to 10 minutes).
Grilled clams: place live clams directly on a medium-hot grill. Cook with the lid closed until clams open, usually 3-10 minutes.
Baked clams: preheat the oven to 400°F. Place live clams on aluminum foil and fold the foil to make a tent for steam. Put clams onto a baking sheet and cook them until the shells open.
Please note that consuming raw or undercooked animal foods, including clams, may increase your risk of contracting a foodborne illness, especially if you have certain medical conditions.
